Senior Manufacturing Engineer

The primary role of this position is to ensure that manufacturing processes are efficient, with the resulting product quality meeting all internal and external specifications. The ME function will assist all operational departments in the development and advancement of production efforts. Other responsibilities include:

  • Establish manufacturing processes and methodologies that meet all customer product-related contract requirements. This will include product workmanship, production methods, electrical testing support, facility layout, equipment function and calibration, packaging and product markings.
  • Maintain and service all production process controls. This relates to the facility, equipment and methodology monitoring of all aspects that control production quality and reliability. Records and quantitative analysis will establish the evidence of control.
  • Establish and continually improve process productivity and product quality using quantitative methods. Improvement evidence will be monitored and proved using quantitative methodology.
  • Troubleshoot all production deficiencies, generate reports for root causes and propose corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership and assistance ensuring seamless cross-functional competence with all departments for new product development. All prototype production builds will be reviewed in detail and reports generated for all attempts. Assess and communicate all less than optimum findings or improvement opportunities in the prototype phase of product development. The manufacturing technology group will have full jurisdiction over prototype processing and evaluations.
  • Provide technical leadership and assessments for new manufacturing technologies and new product process equipment.
  • Manage corporate hazardous materials program.
  • Evaluate production-related materials, ensuring sound technical and practical applications only are approved.
  • Evaluate and implement sound manufacturing practices. Document all necessary processes that could affect product quality.
  • Implement and maintain metrics to establish evidence of continual improvement. Yield data analysis and SPC should be utilized to maintain process controls, provide early detection of negative manufacturing yields, and to monitor continual improvement trends.
  • Logic tools such as Ishikawa diagrams, (cause and effect), brainstorming, team development for troubleshooting, flowcharts, DFM reviews, Pareto analyses, must be utilized to enhance manufacturing process capability index values.
  • Maintain production software data integrity for products, labeling, and production equipment programs.
  • Design and produce custom jigs and fixtures such as custom feeders, board supports, tooling adapters as required. Evaluate, select and qualify production equipment such as screen printers, conveyors, pick and place machines, ovens as directed.
  • Develop implementation plans and implement capital equipment and assembly lines.
  • Provide documented operating instructions for all machines and tools.
  • Service Manufacturing Systems
    • Create and maintain preventative maintenance programs/methods
    • Provide technical assessments for calibration programs/methods
    • Managing the equipment spare parts program and spares inventory
    • Trouble shoot equipment breakdowns
  • Improve Process Quality
    • Determine the causes of failures at production inspection, electrical test, final inspection and RMA returns
    • Analyze root causes to each major failure and propose corrective actions. Analyze data, generate root cause analyses, and propose written corrective actions
    • Monitor effectiveness of corrective action implementation
  • Improve Manufacturing Productivity
    • Reduce/minimize machine set-up and change-over time. This relates to time and motion studies for factors influencing machine set-up. Frequent review of production operator techniques will provide observations for improvements
    • Evaluate and propose new workplace layouts to enhance productivity and organization
    • Examine process to eliminate unnecessary process steps and variation
    • Propose software/hardware changes to make work faster and easier
  • Support New Product Instructions
    • Develop or improve the design for manufacturability, DFM guidelines through data analysis and observations from historical production results
    • Review proposed new product designs for manufacturability, DFM
    • Provide all Manufacturing Engineering Deliverables for Product Release (such as P&P programs, machine item data, labor standards, cycle rates, assembly changes, other item file and database data etc.)
    • Monitor all prototype products in detail for potential improvements. Generate reports for prototype assessment and document within the e-DRF database
  • Support for OSHA/Safety Programs
    • Provide technical leadership for corporate safety programs
    • Provide technical leadership for corporate safety programs
    • Manage hazardous material programs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master of Science Degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Manufacturing Technology
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or equivalent
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about IPC-A-610 standard and have proficiency with the following capital equipment (or their equivalents):
    • Panasonic
    • MPM
    • Conceptronics
    • OmniFlow
    • Amistar
  • Electronics assembly experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven mechanical skills
  • Quantitative technique knowledge
